Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group enter locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
